    Sgt. Air Gunner George Brown, son of Fred Brown and Mary Hoye, was born on 18 Nov 1921 in Toronto, died on 30 Aug 1944 near Croft Spa Railway Station, Co. Durham, England aged 22, and was buried in Harrowgate Cemetery, Harrowgate, Yorkshire, England.
    Sgt. Brown was serving with the 434 Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force, service number R143614. The aircraft, a Halifax III MZ.626 crashed at Croft field near Croft Spa Railway Station, Co. Durham, England in a non-operations night flight. Seven crew on board were killed. The cause of the crash was undetermined. He was the grandson of Thomas Hoye and Annie Laforce of Cobden and attended public and high school in Cobden. A memorial gravestone is in Cobden Union Cemetery.
