Notes - Ada Elizabeth Wheelihan was the third child of John P Wheelihan and Elizabeth Barr Wheelihan. She was born of Irish and Scottish descent in 1867 in Quebec, Canada, having had two sisters, Margaret Maria and Alice Alicia, who were born and died before her birth, and a younger sister, Harriett Elizabeth (Dolly) Wheelihan Payne. Her mother died when she was a young child, and her aunt, Maria Barr, became her step-mother. The family relocated to Ellendale, North Dakota. She then had the following step-siblings: John David Alexander Wheelihan, Zillah May Wheelihan Griffin, Amelia Wheelihan Byer, James Henry "Harry" Wheelihan, William Alfred "Billy" Wheelihan, and Pansy Celeste Wheelihan Wallace.
Ada married George E Dawes in 1887 in South Dakota. They were the parents of three children: Carrie Dawes Butters Verdun, Charles F Dawes, and Lila E Dawes Sullivan.
