Dear Fay: Sorry for the delay in getting this to you - there were many more things that had to be done around our new house before I could get to my genealogy. This is the Wilhelm Pilgrim descendant tree that I have. I am from the Louisa side of the family, altho I have her name as Elizabeth as well, as you can see from the tree. I will be very interested if you can discover who came up with the original tree - it is probably the same person that I have, and I think that came to my Dad thru Pearl McLeod (the Gehrke part of the family). You mention Earl Pilgrim as having a copy - is that the Earl Emerson (George Wesley, John, Wilhelm) Earl? It looks like there were a number of groups from that area went out to the same area of Saskatchewan - I know that there are Zummachs in the family as well. Thanks again for your help in refining the info I have. Please let me know if you hear of anyone doing anything with those names, and especially if you hear of a connection with the Pilgrims or Denzins. On page 195 of Harvest of Stones, it is mentioned that August Boehme married a Densin - this is probably the same family. A Frank Densin is also mentioned on page 192 as witnessing a crown grant for his neighbour, August Boehme in Raglan Twp. I'm sure this Frank was my Great Grandfather. They were from Germany! I still have to check out census material on all this, but if you hear of any connections, I'd be grateful. Thanks for everything, Peggy Wellwood Scott

(See article from the Oakes Times taken from the History of Dickey County compiled by the Dickey County Historical Society 1976 re Dickey County pioneer John Wheelihan 1828-1909.) John Wheelihan arrived in Dakota Territory in the spring of 1882 from Shawville, Quebec, Canada. He was born in County Cork, Ireland. He spent three years in the regiment of the British Army and part of his tour was the Rock of Gibralter, where he rose to First Seargent. There, he joined the Masons in 1857 and remained a lifetime member. While in Canada, he married Elizabeth Barr and had four daughters, Margaret & Alice (both died in Canada as toddlers), and Ada & Harriet (Dolly). After his wife's death, he married her sister, Maria September 30, 1872. Upon arrival in Dakota, he opened the Headquarters Saloon, on the far northwest corner of mainstreet (across from Randalls and the Opera House) and filed for the Wheelihan homestead. In 1884, he made arrangements for his wife, Maria and his older daughters and their four oldest children together (John David Alexander, Zillah May, Amelia, and James Henry, known as Harry) together to join him in Ellendale. Their youngest children, William and Pansy were born in Ellendale. John Wheelihan I became one of the first justices of the peace in Dickey County and Maria fed plaintiffs, defendents and court spectators in their claim shanty, where he held court. John and Maria also raised Percheron and Hamilton horses as well as shorthorn cattle. Around 1900, they built an eight room farmhouse on the Wheelihan farm.
