3654 This writer fondly remembers Mac & Myrtle. They were my neighbours when I was growing up (a block away). I walked past their home 4x/day going to school. Many days, Myrtle would have cookies ready for a treat after school. I always admired Myrtle's peonies that grew across the front of their lawn next to the sidewalk, a pretty flower. I grew up spending a lot of time at the curling rink with my curling family. Mac & Myrtle were regulars there as well. Myrtle's sister Hazel Davis was also a curler - in Eganville. My parents curled there before the Cobden club was built.

Hi Everyone: Great news! The 1928 Ontario Death Certificates have just b een released and B8 Joseph Guest's certificate shows the maiden name of his mother as Marga ret EADES.

Now isn't that curious. My Grandmother on my father's side was Maria Ja ne Eades 1871-1945 marrying James Peever. When I first started genealogy in 1970 I started with the Eades family, and then found that Geo rge Eades had already completed this family - including a contact in Birr Ireland who did a lot of work on the Irish side of the ancestry. N ow his nephew Norris has updated the Eades family tree this past year and I was able to supply photos of many of the Eades family members from my gr andmother's photo album.

An urgent call went out to Norris and sure enough we have a Margaret Ead es b. 20 Aug. 1809 in Birr region, Co. Offaly, (formerly King's County) Ireland. (This is very close to our area in North Tipperary.) S he married 30 Dec. 1828, Ireland to a William and we had his surname as Creefs. Norris had found this name very strange and wondered if in transl ating the original writing a mistake had been made. We feel this could very well be Guest. Another funny thing. The Eades family also use the n ame "Jonathan Verney" as our William & Margaret did for their third son B3 Jonathan Verney b. Kylishananna Bpt. 14 Oct. 1838 Ireland. The ir marriage in 1828 also fits in with their first born Mary Ann Guest, Bpt. 14 Mar. 1830.

What does this mean? William Guest b. ca 1810, lived in Newtown, North Tipperary Co. Ireland married 30 Dec. 1828, Ireland, to Margaret Eades b. 20 Aug. 1809, Birr, (9th child - 3rd daughter) d/o Thomas Eades b. ca 1755, Irish c1821 age 66, Birr, Kings Co. I reland
d. 5 Oct. 1829, Birr, Ireland
married Margaret Alexander b. 1771 Irish c18 21 age 50 Birr, Irelandd. 17 Dec. 183 8, age 63, Birr, Kings Co. Ireland.
Children 16

Thomas Eades and his wife Margaret lived in Sharavogue cottage, Pari sh of Birr, Kings Co. Ireland. Margaret's parents, the Alexanders, liv ed in Clonkelly cottage in Birr (both cottages were still there in 1967) The I rish Population return of 1821 show Thomas and Margaret and their family living in house No. 1, one story in Townland of Upper Clonkelly, Pari sh of Birr, with 14 acres of land. He was a tenant farmer. The landlo rd was Michl. Hackett,- the 'owners of fee' was M. S. Hackett. They had a fami ly of 11 sons and 5 daughters. Birth, Marriage and Death records from the Registers of St. Brendans Church of Ireland, Parish of Birr.

Margaret's brother B3 John Eades married Ann Gunning and are record ed in Carleton Co., Ontario in 1832 then on to Clarendon, Pontiac Twp, P.Q. They had 8 children.

Their 3rd son William Eades married Maria Prendergast and 7th daughter w as my grandmother Maria Jane Eades who married James Peever.

It truly IS a small world! Please update your records. Lois Nuth

The Norris Eades family history lists Margaret's spouse as William Creefs

Lorne was an avid curler and Madelaine would watch his games and bring her lapdog with her. I was fascinated by the dog. Lorne always had a treat for me and my friend Jean who also spent many hours at the curling rink with her parents. The treat was usually a chocolate bar or a pop out of the pop machine. They were always so kind to us. COOKE, Lawrence Blackwell 'Lorne' (I6743)
