Joseph a nd his family settled near Douglas, Ontario in Renfrew County. His proper ty was located at the 3rd Chute on the Bonnechere River. CENSUS RECORDS: 1851 - Living in Bromley Township, Renfrew County, Ontario, Joseph, 45, bo rn in Ireland, Presbyterian, married, farmer, with wife Jane, 40, bo rn in Ireland, children at home, Ellen, 21, born in Ireland, Anne, 19, bo rn in Ireland, Issabell, 1, born in Canada. The census taker listed one f emale birth in past year, and two female deaths, one of consumption and o ne of convulsions. The family live in a shanty. (Note: It is known th at Jane died about 1850 of consumption so it is presumed that the baby Isa bell died of convulsions.) (Reel # C-11751, pg. 3) 1861 - Still resides in Bromley Township, Joseph, 52, wife Jane, 40, bo rn in Ireland, Church of England; children at home: William J., 3, Jose ph C., 2, both born in Upper Canada. The family now live in one-storey l og house. They live next-door to Robert Robertson Smith and wife Elizabet h. (They were the parents of John R. Smith who married Joseph's daught er Ellen.) INFO FROM BEATRICE !ADDRESS: P.O.BOX 927, NEW LISKEARD, ON P0J 1P0 Beatrice Bennett After a five-month illness, Beatrice Bennett died at the Temiskaming Hospital on January 27, 1912, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Milberta, Ontario on June 11, 1920, to Charles and Sarah Phillips, Educated at Highland School, she married Fred Bennett in Milberta on August 24, 1929. Mrs. Bennett was a housewife and mother who also babysat and took in boarders. She loved children and she loved laughing and practical jokes, playing cards, quilting, sewing, crafts, knitting, gardening, canning and spending time with family. The more people around her, the happier she was. She was also a member of St. Paul's United Church. Mrs. Bennett was predeceased by her children Evelyn and Charles Bennett, husband Fred on May 21, 1987, in New Liskeard, parents Charles and Sarah Phillips, and brother Lloyd Phillips. She is survived by her children Frances (Bob Woods), Catherine (Art Handley), Sheila (Doug Conroy), Jim (Deanna) Bennett, Dorothy (Bruce Sweet), Garry (Sharron Bennett, Gail (George Newton);, 36 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, 12 great great-granchildren, sister Francis Eddyvean as well as nieces and nephews. The funeral was arranged by Perrin Funeral Chapel in New Liskeard and was conducted by Reverend Micol Cottrell at St. Paul;s United Church. Pallbearers were Jim Bennett, Garry Bennett, George Newton, Bob O'Krafka, Art Handley and Ralph Grabowski. Burial will be at the New Liskeard Cemetery. Relatives and friends from Cambridge, North Bay, Orangeville, Hanover, Sault St Marie, Sudbury, Timmins, Marathon, Brampton, Orillia, Spragge, Hamilton and other points across the province attended the service.
