    It was with deeply saddened hearts that the large congregation in Grace Me thodist church, Cobden, sang these words during the funeral service of M rs Wilson Blackwell of Wolftown last Sat aft. Although only ill for a sho rt period of four weeks, her death was a great shcock to everyone. Duri ng the short illness her constitution orapidly weakened and in spite of a ll that kind hands could do she passed away at her home on Thursday, Mar ch 13th. The late Mrs Wilson Blackwell, whose maiden name was Emily McInt yre, was born in Douglas forty-nine years ago and was a dau of late Mr a nd Mrs Sam McIntyre. In that place she spent her girlhood days and abt tw enty-five years ago she became the wife of Wilson Blackwell and they resid ed on a farm in Bromley twp Their home was known by all for its air ofki nd hospitality and ever pleasing welcome which greeted all callers. Decea sed was a woman highly esteemed by a host of friends and during her ilne ss she bore her suffering, with Christian fortitude. She was a loving a nd faithful wife and a tender mother. Althoug she will be sadly missed t he life she lived in her home and wherever she went was such as to lea ve an influence that will be as a guiding voice. Her kind and sympathet ic disposition won for her the highest respect and admiration. She w as an ardent sympathizer in church work and was a member of the Presbyteri an church. She leaves to mourn her loss her sorrowing husband and a fami ly of four : Sam late of San Francisco but now at home; Bernice, Kenne th and Marjorie all at home. Sam was not able to reach home before she pa ssed away but arrived for the funeral. Deceased is also survived by four b rothers and four sisters namely: Mrs David Stewart, Renfrew, Mrs Nina? Ro ss, Eganville, Mrs Martha McLaren?, Los Angelos; Miss Bell? McIntyre Nor th Dakota; Herbert? J?, Cleveland; Dan?? at Johannesburg, South Africa; S am at North Dakota; and James at Hamilton. The funeral service was he ld in Grace Methodist Church on Sat Aft Mar 15th and was conducted by h er pastor Rev A donaldson, assisted by rev E D Mitchell. The church was p acked as people of all classes paid thier last tribute to one so deeply lo ved. The hymns sung during the service were: For ever with the Lord; Near er My God in Thee; and Rock of aGes. Mrs W A Dack sang an appropriate sol o: No Night There. and the choir sang a selection. Rev Mr Donaldson preac hed an impressive serman .... (unable to make out the remainder includi ng pallbearers names.)

    Cobden Sun Aug 14th 1924 (reprinted in Renfrew MercuryAug 22 1924)

    On Thursday Aug 7th, God saw fit to take to himself another man who saw pi oneer days in this community in the person of WM Blackwell, whom he had bl essed with a long life of eighty-two years and seven months. Of a fami ly of ten, six sons and four dau who with thier parents came from Irelan d, all have passed to the Great Beyond except one, George of Ottawa. Will iam being the second last. As a fmaily they were all reaised on a farm be low Haleys, near the Garden of Eden and from there they all started o ut in life. Wm married Miss Margaret Mason, dau of the late Mr and Mrs. S am Mason of Horton, and started a home for themselves on a farm in Ross ne ar the corner commonly called Bull's Acre. Here this union was blessed wi th a family of three sons and two dau : George , onw of Cobden; Sam, who d ied at the age of ten years; Wm of Wolftown; Jane Mrs. Magnus McLeod of Wo lftown; and Sarah Ann Mrs. Wesley Clark of Neepawa, Man. From there the f amily moved to Bromley Twp to the farm owned by his son, Mr. Wilson Blackw ell. Abt thirty-three years ago the mother died and Mr W Blackwell marri ed again to Miss Grace Y Percival of Bromley. To themwere born on dau a nd one son Mrs. John Crozier of Cobden an Wm P of Strathmore, Alberta. Tw enty-five years ago they came to Cobden to reside. For twelve years decea sed carried the mail from the locatl Post Office to the station. He w as a man who was highly honoured and respected and one who had been a frie nd to many and was always of a cheerful disposition. His first thought w as always of others. A short illness of two weeks from heart trouble a nd old age brought him to his eath ed. The funeral was held on Sat Aug 9 th from his late home on Morton St to Grace Methodist church where servi ce was conducted by his pastor, Rev W H Shadbolt of the Standard chur ch of which deceased was a strong supporter. Rev Mr Shadbolt was assist ed by Revs L Tomlinson of Forester's Falls and R Collins of Renfrew. Inte rment was made in the Cobden Cemtery. Beside his wife and family who a re left to mourn his loss there is an adopted dau, Miss Alice; an adopt ed son, Harold, aged ten years, died four years ago. One brother Geor ge of Ottawa, also survives, but owing to a visit in the West this summ er was not present at the funeral. Among those from a distance a the funer al were Mr and Mrs W Dagg and Mr Harry Blackwell of Ottawa; Miss Nell Mas on of Montreal, Mr and Mrs Carswell and dau of Campbells Bay; Mr and Mrs P off of Pembroke and a number from Renfrew.
