CHx-McLaren's Dam - The McLaren Dam was built on the Muskrat Creek east of Cobden by McLaren Roller Mills who began operations in 1910. In dry seasons, there was insufficient power to the Mill and the dam was built to create a head pond. According to 'Cobden Then & Now' by George Wallace, this water system was harnessed to supply power to the village of Cobden in 1917. That power supply came to an end in 1934 when the dam ruptured and flooded Hwy 17.
