1353 Note by this author:
Clarke & this author corresponded off & on over a lengthy period of time regarding Ross & Westmeath Twp genealogy and shared many genealogical finds. Clarke was faithful to stop in for an afternoon of genealogy when he visited the valley.
The Johnson/Brown genealogy listed on this site has greatly benefited from the research and collection of photographs supplied by Clarke.
I was deeply saddened to have lost this genealogy 'buddy' but am thankful that some of his genealogical efforts will be passed along through this website.

1359 Obituary provided by Tamara Yourth Kay
Vaughn Yourth passed away April 10, 2023 after a lifetime of health challenges. Told by doctors he would never see 40, Vaughn died at age 82 still singing, still Vaughn. He had two passions in life: entertaining and tractors. Born legally blind with less than 10% vision and without lenses, Vaughn lived a challenging life. From an early age, he had a voice that drew people to him. With his band, throughout the 60?s and 70?s he performed all over eastern Ontario and western Quebec in nightclubs and at events. Vaughn and his band even won a record contract. One night Vaughn was playing at a restaurant/gas stop. In rolled Johnny Cash and his tour bus. Johnny got off the bus and went in to get a drink and heard the singing in the back. He wandered back and jammed with Vaughn till the wee hours. Vaughn had a voice with a range and style that people could listen to for hours. He liked nothing better than an audience. In 1976, Vaughn found Faith and quit the nightclub life to sing in churches and prisons, traveling with a variety of evangelists. Vaughn resided in Cobden, Ontario most of his life and was a well known entertainer throughout the Ottawa Valley. His last few years were spent living near his children in Calgary. Vaughn is survived by his four children: Robert of Cobden; Tamara Kay (Brian), Lana Edwards, and Grant, all of Calgary. He is also survived by grandchildren: Joshua and Jessie Yourth, Jaxan Kay, Erika Blaedow, Isabelle and Sophie Edwards, and Jakob Yourth. Vaughn is predeceased by his parents Harry and Lorna (Molkentine) Yourth and all of his siblings: Betty Agate, Irwin Yourth, Merle Suckow, Ardella Olmstead and June Lukus.

1383 On March 24, 1851, John Sparling married Mary Jane Lowe of Pakenham. The preacher, Thomas Walker Constable, a Wesleyan Minister, performed the cere mony. The witnesses were Thomas Scott, brother-in-law of the bride, and Eliza An n Dixon, sister of the bride.

Grandpa's obituary states: "Fifty-six years ago he took unto himself a helpmate in the person of Mary Jane Lowe of Pakenham, and together they br avely went to work to hew out a home in the forest."

This writer has a copy of their marriage certificate which seems authentic although by this time very worn and battered. Doubtless the original o ne was destroyed when in 1881 the first house, a log one, was burned to the groun d. A beautiful red brick home rose in its place, built in stages as the economy allowed. The farm was rolling land, green with grain; an altogether beaut iful site in the summer.

Grandpa Sparling was twenty-three years old when he married. To quote his obituary again: "He was of retiring disposition - and altogether a fine t ype of man."

He had contributed of his time and money for the betterment of the communi ty.
