Renfrew Mercury Aug 24 1900 Mrs. David Humphries, an estimable lady of Cobden, died suddenly on Sund ay evening from Bright's disease and a husband and two young children a re left to mourn her early demise. She was thiry-four years of age. T he funeral on Tuesday was attended by a large number of sympathizing frien ds, many coming from a distance. Short services were held at the house a nd cemetery by Rev Mr Osborne, assied by Rev. Mr De Long, of Haley's Stati on. The funeral sermon will be delviered on Sunday morning next inthe Met hodist church, Cobden, by Rev Mr Osborne, The deceased lady was a sist er to Mrs Alex Mills of Eganville, and to her and the sorrowing family t he Enterprise tendesr its expression of sympathy.

In my records, I also have Pearl's other children listed as Barbara; Judith; Pearl; Rhea; Wanda, b. about 1939; Pam, b. 1940, d. 2002; James; Garry, b. 1943, d. 2010; and Diana, b. 1946, d. 2011. Can you share more information about this family? Pearl Kiely's mother and my father were siblings.

I have a picture of the four generations:
Mary Kiely, Bridget Pearl Pappin, Lorraine Pappin and Eileen Mitchell (me). I also have other numerous pictures of the family. Mary Kiely raised my aunt Opal. I lived with my grandmother the summer of 1962 or 63. she lived on Dorn St. right next to a church. My fondest memory of my greatgrandmother, Ma was that she liked to play solitare at night and my cousin and I would beg her to play "clock".

In 1940, Elmer purchased 46 Main St. (beside the Whitewater Region Township office) from the Tuffy Estate where he built the present building. Elmer's wife Clara also opened a shoe store in the newly constructed building.
Elmer & Clara's son Gerald "Gerry" Dobson joined his dad in the business upon his return from serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force in WWII.

1242 Jack Hanes, 57, of Framingham Drive, Sylvania, died yesterday in Flower Memorial Hospital, after an apparent heart attack. He was branch manager seven years for Gallagher-Bassett Insurance Service. He was previously employed 15 years at the Transamerica Insurance Corp. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, and was Superintendant of the Sunday school at First United Methodist Church, Sylvania.

He is survived by his wife, three daughters, three sons, a sister and five grandchildren.

1250 James Henry "Harry" was born in Canada and was the fourth child of John P & Maria (Barr) Wheelihan. The family relocated to the Ellendale area when he was an infant. He had two living half sisters at the time of his birth, (Ada Wheelihan Dawes & Harriet Wheelihan Payne) & full siblings John DA, Zillah May, & Amelia. Brother William & sister Pansy were born in the family farm north of Ellendale. Harry died of tuberculosis while in Salt Lake City, UT at the age of 25.
